Wasting time on Social Media between chapters of Nathan Schneider’s “Everything for Everyone” on the topic of distributed ownership and ran across this. May have to create a Ghost account just to subscribe to this! #capitalism2pt0

✨ New resource: @owning_matters just posted their very first newsletter all about the ownership economy. What it is, why it's important, and how we can come together as a community to help it grow.

I happened to have the great honor of befriending a guy named Morrie Lippman, who at one point in his life was the director of the Berkeley Co-op. Morrie was in his 90's when I knew him. I drove him around in my dilapidated VW, for which I apologized. His reply: "This is a fine automobile."
In his young days he lived on an anarchist farm (in Michigan?). Don't know if it's of any use, but his wife gave me a copy of the book (introduction by Ralph Nader) What Happened to the Berkeley Co-op? - a collection of opinions regarding the demise of that institution. I see that UC Davis has made a copy available online (link to pdf)
http://sfp.ucdavis.edu/files/143772.pdf
Hmmm... or maybe Morrie was just manager of their grocery store??

Because of my previous idol worship of Jobs & NeXT I found the revelations about the shady stuff that happened laid out even more troubling. As I wrote previously though no more coddling of idols, instead deal with reality of their faults #retrocomputer
Interesting history - and there's no doubt that Apple used a lot of spin to build loyalty. (and from your story, Tramiel cut himself off at the knees).
I guess it depends on the product, whether an origin story is a selling point. There's a lot of buzz around Elon Musk, but I don't know if that sells more Teslas or fewer (part of the Tesla appeal is to the early adopter segment; regardless of Musk, but the product being acceptable quality). I think there are a lot of niche internet businesses selling consumer goods that hype an origin story "just two guys who felt like they were paying too much". Newman's Own line of salad dressing, etc carries on, even after his death, and competes on the basis of donating to charity. Lots of companies have started saying for every product sold they'll plant a tree or give money to XYZ. As long as the product is of similar or better quality, and the price is the same or slightly higher, people will weigh paying the extra for whatever cause or to avoid slave labor.
Just got around to reading the posted book review. NeXT was introduced in 1988? I have this odd snippet of a memory - going to some trade show where Silicon Graphics and the new NeXT computer featured prominently. At that time, I would have been attending a Community College, having read Stewart Brand's "Inventing the Future" about M.I.T.'s Media Lab and imagining that somehow I was going to get on the train to working in internet-based multi-media. The train pulled out of the station without me, but I somewhat randomly ended up back in Silicon Valley seven years later. Anyway, in 1988 I remember the hype about the NeXT computer, and seeing one at this trade show was like seeing the black monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

An appraisal valued Carlette’s Indy home at $110K. Then she took out all African artwork, pictures of her family, and had a white, male friend sit in the house posing as her brother. After that? The home was valued at $259K.
Holy cow. That's insane. I don't know how appraisals work, apparently.

Over dinner I told my wife one of my tweets ended up in a court case against Apple. Her first reaction, without even knowing what it said: “Is Apple going to retaliate?!” So yeah, for almost 13 years of making a living on the App Store, we‘ve lived in fear of Apple.

If you emotionally blackmail or abuse someone and they leave, you haven’t been abandoned.

They escaped, sweetheart. Not because you weren’t enough, but because you were too much.

I pushed a PR to add the oversight board domain to the Facebook Container domains: https://github.com/mozilla/contain-facebook/pull/759 - so if you try to access the thing, it'll just open inside a Facebook Container tab and work just fine there. I've been told that there will be a new addon release either today or tomorrow, so that should be fixed. ;)
@Dennis Schubert Oh cool! I wasn't expecting that. I sort of put it on them for hosting content on a system that they shouldn't be especially since they are supposed to be independent and all. But I definitely appreciate your effort and the fast turn around time on it.

I mean... they don't even try to make it look like they are. 😀

POP is one of the few Ubuntu based distro's that seem to work 😀
@Hans Wolters When I finally buy a new Linux box and get a System76 unit I'm really thinking of having it install Pop instead of Ubuntu...
@Hank G ☑️ My Son, currently 31 years old, installed a lot of Linux distro's. A lot of Ubuntu versions even when I told him to not do it. Well, if he is able to install a system, install new kernels, etc.. I should not complain. I do not, since he installed POP he does not need my help anymore.

I would love to move him to arch / manjaro too b.t.w., been running it for a few weeks and yes, I am pleased with that. Still running it on a 6 year old machine but I am pleased. It's a core i7 with 16 GB ram, ssd storage. I think it will be to fast when I had ddr4 😀

yes, but still, any acronym is confusing if not useless unless defined in the first use as it should have been in the Headline of this article. That's the problem with using acronyms and making assumptions about understanding.

Lose Yourself in This Majestic New Hubble Picture of an Entire Cluster of Galaxies

What you're looking at here is a cluster of hundreds of galaxies of different shapes and sizes, some 1.4 billion light-years away from Earth, with the elliptical ESO 146-5 galaxy at the center – thought to be one of the most massive in the known Universe because of its strong gravitational lensing effect (shown by the uneven blue halo).

Someone irresponsible enough to want to buy a fake vaccination card - because, I don't know, "fuck you libtard"? - giving their real name and birthdate to someone willing to break the law to forge fake vaccination cards, is hilarious. I mean, seriously, Full Name and Birthdate is a unique key and the first step to fullblown identity theft. "I'd like to buy a fake vaccine card, because not only am I naive enough to be anti-vax, but I'm completely irresponsible and so angry I'll shoot myself in the foot, just to prove I'm not a lackey, just like Uncle Tucker tells me every day, what a lackey I'm not, when I do exactly he tells me to do."

Please media, stop talking about the “divide” in the Republican Party. I engage with thousands of Republican voters every day. THERE IS NO DIVIDE. The party is incredibly united behind Trump & Trumpism.

Please @CNN, @MSNBC and all the rest. Stop talking about a divided party.
I'm sorry, how is 70/30 not split? I'll grant you the decision-making is aligned behind Trump out of political expediency, but the rank-and-file voters are not.
If those 30% didn't vote along with the other 70% when push came to shove both for leadership positions and for candidates that support the big lie supported by 70% I'd agree with you. That's not where we are though. They are all marching forward in the same direction.
