"Fortune.com reported on Jan. 11 that S&P Global Ratings estimated the shutdown had cost the economy $3.7 billion, with the cost to exceed $6 billion if the government doesn’t reopen by Jan. 25." What about the interest on unpaid debt? What about the impact to the economy? What about the long term credit damage to those late on bills and the resulting negative impact on the economy? It's going to be far greater than $3.7 billion.
