I believe I've found a source of problems and have corrected it. Hopefully we no longer see the service drop outs.

So far, so good. There's some interesting DB updates (Michael Vogel has been working on fixing up the DB structure for several revisions) coming down the pipe very soon that should help further with performance, but I'm going to let the system run status-quo for the moment until I'm sure the stability problems are gone.
