The IMA Accessibility Center (IAC) construction is underway! Thanks much to those helping with this project and to Avacon Grid for hosting. :)
The goals of this project are: to increase awareness of challenges faced by users in five disability categories; provide information, resources, and best practices to all those interested; and to highlight contributors and related organization projects.
The Conference room was completed some months ago as a casual meeting space as well as immersive and fun features including a social waterfront area.
More navigation signage is being planned, the space layout is strategically planned for ease of avatar movement, and a teleport elevator was scripted to accommodate those who have issues moving vertically in world.
The Inclusivity room was mostly completed today. Remaining efforts later on include an experimental approach to stream the video through the parcel media. This will be helpful for users of OnLook and Singularity viewers with SSL handing errors. There are no issues with the modern viewers but it would be nice to have a synchronized stream on our Icecast2 server which hosts IMA Radio.
The Interactivity room was mostly completed today also with the placement of interactive linkset vehicles properly named for visually impaired users of Radegast and with controls designed for those with mobility impairments. Clicking the screen will load a document from the AbleGamers Foundation called Includification:A Practical Guide to Game Accessibility. The only item still to be addressed include some script permission issues for the copy of the rideable NPC horse.
Planning and gathering of data is in work for the Standards, Regulations, Hardware, and Software rooms on the second level. The group along with Gentle Heron from Virtual Ability are working on how we will build out these rooms.
Then we will move up to the third level for information and education specific rooms associated with vision, speech, hearing, and mobility issues in virtual worlds. Finally, the fourth level will include information and education specific rooms associated with cognitive disabilities, research, UX design, and VW design.
If you would like to get involved, let me know! We also meet every Friday evening at 8 pm ET or 5 pm PT in IMA Outpost Alpha at
