Question: I've been experimenting with features. On the protocols box in the left panel, When I choose DFRN I see user posts showing from Friendica. When I choose Activity Pub I see user posts showing from Friendica (AP). I've seen these in mixed form (both) from this node. What does it mean?
As you probably have already seen, some parts of Google+ are beginning to shut down.
I have received a couple of email notifications from Google about their API being shut down as of today, which means that posts to/from Google+ from here will stop functioning.
Some people are apparently still seeing some functionality so I suppose it's possible that it could take some time for this feature to stop operating completely, but it's probably good to know that it will be stopping very soon.
That said, we do have an integrated chat system on the iSurf Social platform, which you can use with either a standard XMPP client (such as Pidgin, gajim, or Conversations for Android or Xabber for Android - there's IOS apps too), or if you'd like to test/try out a web-based chat client here, which I'm going to have some discussion with the developers on replacing the old unsupported client with, please give chat.social.isurf.ca a try. It's a rediculously simple setup, nothing fancy. You use your social.isurf.ca username & password to login in to it.
If you would like any further information on how to use any of the other clients I mentioned, please let me know!

Quick question based on general comments I've seen about Friendica over on G+. Some users are looking for a set of rules, terms of service, etc to decide whether they agree with the way a node might be run before signing up. Have you considered posting some information or a link on the main page?
1. Different nodes: I sent a connection request to someone on the nerdica node. I am on a different node. It said the request went through. Then I clicked on the notifications box to get notifications from the contact, and it said "Profile Not Found." Why? Can I only get notifications if the person decides to accept my connection request?
2. Same Node: Also, when I click on one of my contacts' profiles (on this same node), Allen Middleton, it says "Profile Not Found. This resource may be added in the future" (or something to that effect. He gets the same thing if he clicks on the icon for my profile in his Contacts list or on his profile. He had originally set his account up with 2 profiles & I tried to accept the contact request on both - maybe that is what caused the problem. In any case, there seems to be a problem with being able to click on profiles & see profiles, even with people who have accepted connection request and with whom I have "mutual friendship" marked in the Directory. So, it is happening with profiles on other nodes, as well as profiles on this node.
Thanks to @Hank G bringing to my attention that posting to Twitter wasn't functioning, I've gone through fixing that functionality up.
If you were using the Twitter connector, you'll have to go to your settings and disconnect Twitter, then re-connect it (you'll need to use the new PIN).
My posts are still disappearing. I turned off all retire old post settings, and someone turned them back on. What is going on?

Made a few posts in the feed. Now I see that some of them have disappeared without any warning.
Do you know what could be wrong?
Noticed weak encryption on this Friendica instance probably because of loading insecure http content or something like that. Someone suggested that you could use the information on this website to change that behavior so people would not get anxious about seeing this behavior on what they believe should be a totally encrypted site. My understanding is that this has to be corrected on the Friendica Server here. #encryption #broken-encryption
As there was a question posted about this I wanted to create a public post here to mention that we do have an XMPP chat server here @ social.isurf.ca and you are able to use it since you're a social.isurf.ca user!
The clients that I am familiar with that work with XMPP are: Pidgin, Gajim (Linux/Windows desktop clients), Conversations and Xabber for Android. There's clients for MacOS and IOS as well, a list of clients can be found at xmpp.org.
The only tie-in to the Friendica software at this point is authentication, so that means your roster of contacts and whatnot for XMPP contacts is separate from your Friendica contacts.
If you want to try it out at any point, your username for XMPP is firstname.lastname@example.org . (if your username on social.isurf.ca was 'bob', then it would be email@example.com )
At some point in the future I would like to see a chat widget show up in Friendica - hopefully that can be fixed in the not too distant future.
I am noticing some changes since the update to RC. Specifically, I used to be able to (on top posts at least) click link, see a dialog box, paste the link, then see the preview showing the link embedded. Now, it defaults to the url tags and does not embed even if I put on my glasses to get the cursor in between the tags. I also do not see an image icon or video icon (this is in Frio) which was user friendly. Am I missing something or did a change take place that reversed some usability?
I've gone to settings, additional features, general, allow calendar export. What I can't find is what to tell others on how to export my calendar. Can anyone help?
- on the left box, relationship status shows as 'e'
- on the basic tab it shows as 'e never'
- on the advanced tab, sexual preference shows as 'e'
If I edit my profile, these fields do not show up, even after toggling "show more profile fields". In fact I don't think any extra field actually shows up?
Thanks in advance, and Happy New Year!
Being new here, I sent out some requests to Connect with like-minded people. In each case, the form asked "Do you know them?" And in every case, the reply 'Yes' was pre-selected and I couldn't change it. Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

Hey folks! I am not sure why the community forum account type is not showing in global search after a !
What I did was create a new account with a different email address and set the account type to community. When I bring it up it shows to be a forum but users find it using @ instead of !
How do I change it so it can be found either way?
